Local Music

After the Dismemberment Plan split in '03 they opened their music to others to cut up and remix. They picked the best submissions and those became A People's History of the Dismemberment Plan. It's an interesting but kind of uneven set of songs. One track stands above the others though, local guy Ev's (12 Rods, Halloween Alaska) remix of The City. Apparently he had never heard the original version before doing his remix.

Pretty hit or miss, but mostly miss in my opinion. Wouldn't bother to listen to twice. Last bad remix CD I listened to was the Carpenters remix CD. Not sure why I listened to that one once either. YUCK!

Best remix CD I've heard lately:
"Fire On the Mountain - Reggae Celebrates the Grateful Dead"

All reggae versions of Dead songs, very cool! I think there are two volumes currently available.

Should clarify, though, remix and re-make of songs. I guess "Reggae Dead" and That Carpenters CD would fall under the re-make header instead of re-mix.

Just felt the re-mixes as a whole on "A People's History" didn't quite hit the mark.
